- GENERIC SKILLS
I have continuously developed and maintained strong skills in critical academic writing, specifically report development, briefing papers and prevention strategies, essential to administrative duties of a Correctional Officer. Additionally, I have honed specialised skills of engaging effectively with clients from varying backgrounds. This has been evident in my ability to portray an extra individualistic view of conduct. Furthermore, the challenging nature of my job position has reinforced techniques of interprofessional teamwork with a multitude of agencies through effective academic group work, extensive case study research and a multitude of collaborative presentations.
- SPECIALISED SKILLS
My experience through completing a double bachelor’s degree of Arts/Social Science and my workplace experience as an employee of the NSW Corrective Services has appointed me with specific academic and practical skills that are indispensable. My academic skills specifically focus on conducting efficient research and writing techniques that follow extensive organisational skills. My ability to transfer academic knowledge to my practical workplace has been vital in my advancement in employment. I have gained substantial knowledge in working within legal frameworks, conduct and ethical codes and to express adequate Interprofessionalism and professional practice.
- COMMUNITY FUNDING APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT
My ability to produce and promote skills in conducting community needs analysis has been advanced through critical examination of qualitative statistical data, specifically through BOSCAR and ABS, conducting quantitative research methods of interviews, focus groups and mass surveys. Additionally, engaging and improving upon pre-existing projects and identifying evident gaps in the delivery and service of aforementioned projects has proven my capability in investigating the interests of stakeholders. This has resulted in my ability to identify project developments and proposals in areas such as Granville and Auburn to promote the implementation of environmental security resources such as blue lights, to reduce suicide, CCTV to increase surveillance and to deter and manage and monitor the effectiveness of police patrols in said regions. The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development was the chosen area that would provide support and aid to assist in the project’s implementation.
4. APPLIED DEBATING: DEVELOPING POSITION PAPERS
An applied debate is a vital and necessary skills to utilise when applying arguments to a position being presented. It allows and encourages for advocating changes through movements, policy and legislative changes in all aspects of life both nationally and internationally. Through writing my position paper I have gained strong skills in developing a position on a topic and gathering information through extensive research, both qualitative and quantitative, to create a detailed and assertive paper. Additionally, the position paper has encouraged me to implement skills in suggesting further actions and solutions through implementing abovementioned research.
